4 Levels of Suspension Control and Adjustment

FOX Float - With ACCURIDE

FOX FLOAT WITH ACCURIDE
ACCURIDE A NEW STANDARD

All Shockwave seats now feature ACCURIDE suspension control. This allows accurate suspension settings to suit rider weight, rider preferences and sea conditions.

This simple but poweful tool lets you get the most out of your Shockwave seat and ensure that the suspension is settup correctly to your specific needs. Simply sit in the seat and align the arrow with the green zone. Use the hand pump to align the arrow to the top of green zone for rough seas and bottom of green zone for light seas.

SHOCKWAVE FOX FLOAT - Only From Shockwave

The FOX Float suspension is standard on all models. It is complete with an air pump, so that the seat can be adjusted for different payloads and sea conditions. The patented Samurai Sealing System prevents loss of air between adjustments.

Once the pressure is set the Float requires no additional adjustment for most uses. This system has shown to be 30 percent more effective than coil spring systems in shock and vibration modulation even without any additional adjustment

The FOX Float is a progressive rate, air spring, with a speed sensing damper mounted inside the air chamber. This is ideal for marine shock mitigation because the spring gets stiffer as load is applied, to prevent harsh bottoming while providing a smooth ride in less severe conditions. The shock absorber within the Float automatically adjusts to changes in payload, spring rate (air pressure) and piston velocity to provide the correct dampening without the need of user input.

The other key advantage of the Float system is "economy of motion." The Float suspension moves a minimum amount in relation to the vessel and the vessel controls. This allows seats to be mounted closer to instruments and controls. The reduced bouncing and pitching provides a better ride for passengers and more control for the crew.

NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH STANDARD FOX FLOAT. OTHER MANUFACTURERS PROVIDE THE FOX FLOAT SHOCK. SHOCKWAVE IS THE ONLY SEAT COMPANY THAT PROVIDES THE MARINE VERSION OF THIS SHOCK ABSORBER. BEWARE OF IMMITATIONS.

AVA - Air Volume Adjustable

Unpowered Remote Manual Adjustable

The RCC RIde Control Center provides complete control of the spring rate and dampening of the FOX Float shock absorber system. The RCC is available conveniently mounted to the armrest of the seat or in a vertical confiquration mounted behind the seat.

This system is a powerful tool that provides quick and easy adjustment of the suspension to suit any passenger weight or sea condition. To operate the user presses a button to see current pressure. The guage is conveniently labelled in human pounts not psi. Simply set the pressure for your body weight. A bleed button lets the user lower pressure as needed.

The shock dampening is controlled by a knob with settings from 1 - the lightest setting to 10 - the firmest setting to allow tuning for rider preference and sea conditions.

The RCC provides active suspesnion performance without the need for complicated hardware, software and wires at a reasonable cost.

SMART - Shock Mitigation Adaptive Ride Technology

Powered Semi Automatic Remote Adjust

The SMART system is comprised of a 12 or 24 volt air compressor controlled by a small micro processor and the components of the standard Float and    AVA systems.

A combination of armrest or dash mounted automatic and manual controls gives the user complete control over ride height, load capacity, spring rate, spring ramp rate and shock dampening.

The system can be operated in manual or automatic modes. Indicator lights warn the user of potential bottoming, or indicate that the suspension settings are outside optimum parameters.

One air compressor will power up to 4 seats. The system can also be operated on an existing ship’s compressor if it is able to generate 300 psi.

This is an effective way to provide advanced shock mitigation for crews where occupant weight, sea conditions and ride height all need to change frequently.

Let Shockwave assist you in choosing the right suspension adjustment system to suit your needs.

MRAD - Magneto Rheological Active Dampening

Powered Fully Automatic

The MRAD system was developed by Shockwave in conjunction with Lord Chemicals and Techno Sciences.

The system uses shock absorbers filled with Magneto Rheological (MR) fluid developed by Lord Chemicals and operates on 12 or 24 volt ship’s power.

Deck mounted sensors detect shock and vibration. The computer program in the shock controller reads the deck input and outputs a signal to an electromagnet in the shock casing. The electromagnet, under instruction from the computer changes viscosity of the MR shock oil almost instantaneously to optimally mitigate shock and vibration, regardless of passenger weight or sea conditions.

Coil springs can be used in this application because the fluid can mimic a progressive spring rate.

MR fluid systems are simple, fail safe, proven and reliable.

MR is used in high performance vehicles such as the Cadillac CTS, Corvette Z07, Audi R-8, Ferrari 599 GTB. The United States Army uses MR to extend military vehicle payload capacity, ride quality and to reduce failures and maintenance.

Intelligent Foam Padding Material

EAF - Energy Absorbing Foam

Seat cushion materials are a very important part of the shock mitigation package.

Our cushions are the product of exhaustive materials testing and our 8000 mile transit of the Northwest Passage.

EAF foam is specially formulated so it won't mush out in hot temperatures or get hard as a brick in cold temperatures.

It distributes body weight over a wider area so the seat is more comfortable over a long period and absorbs more shock and vibration.

See standard foam compared to EAF foam in the figure above. This shows the pressure distribution of a seated occupant. The red and yellow areas indicate high pressure and the cooler blue colors represent lower pressure. The lower pressures mean that the material is spreading and absorbing the shock and vibration loads more evenly which increases comfort to the passenger.
