Great Lakes Scuttlebutt - Fall 2025
Shockwave Seats started out providing high-tech mission-specific marine suspension seats for the US Coast Guard in 2001 and quickly became the first choice for professionals needing optimum protection from wave impact. In 2016, the company answered the call from everyday boaters who wanted the same protection for their backs.
The S5 and, later, the Sentinel were introduced. The cast aluminum powder-coated bases were an instant
hit, and as demand grew, Shockwave tested and refined the design continuously. The latest innovation is the recently launched new range of bases, each designed for specific boating conditions.
The Great Lakes have always been a boating mecca, and the new Shockwave S5 LW base introduced this year is tailor-made for these conditions. The anodized and powder-coated A360 aluminum is tougher and more durable. Furthermore, the three-link, forward-action suspension design is based on the X-Fusion O2 PRO R air-sprung shock, providing up to four inches of vertical cushioning and the critical 1.5 inches forward travel that counters the front-on impact of each wave.
The shock features an adjustable rebound so that the comfort of the ride can be changed to cater for size and frequency of the current wave conditions. Small, choppy waves call for quicker rebound rates, while a longer wave period and bigger chop are best handled with a slower rebound rate.
The S5-LW is a lighter option – weighing just over 20 lbs. – and is designed to handle a weight load of up to 250 lbs. It will stand up well to normal freshwater exposure, particularly when the Shockwave seat care guidelines are followed. It is an ideal cabin seat suspension base and pairs easily with all major seats on
the market. It is also regularly installed with a swivel, slide, or the popular combination swivel-slide.
The new S5-LW brings industry-leading seat suspension right into the budgets of everyday boaters.
